1 - What is the “Mega Hunt”?

Mega Hunt” is a SMS based Trivia Game exclusively for MTN’s customers. The Promotion is designed to engage MTN’s customers and give them the opportunity to participate in draws for various prizes. During the trivia game - as well as when maxing out the daily questions cap - customers are prompted to enter the premium level; this action rewards them with higher value prizes, increasing interactivity and promo play rates.

  1.    FREE LEVEL / FREELAND – involves a set of questions and answers free of charge. By answering questions, user collects points, which increases his/her chances of winning. Participants become eligible to win Free Level Prizes: electronic prizes every day plus N 500,000 every week.
  2.    PREMIUM LEVEL - consists of a stage under a daily subscription cost. Premium subscribers can compete for Premium Level Prizes.
  •    VIP CLASS – gives access to subscribers to the draws of greater prizes (N 1,000,000 every day and N 10,000,000 every week) under a daily subscription cost of 100 Naira. VIP Class subscribers can still answer the Freeland trivia questions in order to increase their chances of winning the prizes that correspond to the VIP Class and Freeland participation

2 - What is the service duration?

The start date was on the 11th of May 2016.

The end date of Mega Hunt will be the 30th of May 2018. The Service may be further extended.

3 - Who is eligible to participate?

Mega Hunt  is open to residents of Nigeria that are subscribers of MTN and are at least 18 years old, excluding all employees, representatives and agents of MTN, their respective parents and/or affiliated companies, contest suppliers, and those with whom any of the foregoing are domiciled. The person that owns the SIM card or has expressed authorization from the SIM card’s owner to use it is considered as Participant, regardless of the actual user of the phone.

4 - How can I participate?

To participate to the free trivia service (Freeland), you can:

  • Either send an SMS with the word “FREE” to the shortcode 38427 for free.
  • Or dial the USSD Code *173*2# for free.

To subscribe to VIP Class, you can:

  • directly send an SMS with the word “VIP” to the shortcode 38427
  • Or dial the USSD Code *173*1#

5 - What is the cost of participation?

Freeland is totally free of charges. If you are subscribed to VIP Class, the subscription cost is 100 Naira per day (automatic daily renewal). 

6 - What is the points’ collection process & draw participation rules?

The points collected represent the number of entries a user has in the competition and for the corresponding draws. The more points a user has accumulated, the more entries has into the draws and thus more chances of winning. The below table summarizes the point scheme that applies to participants of both free and premium levels:

Freeland Participants earn points within Mega Hunt, by replying to the trivia questions and are eligible for the Freeland Prizes with the total number of points accumulated up to the end of the relevant draw period. To qualify for a particular draw, Participants must have either sent an MO to the shortcode 38427, have dialed the USSD code *173*2# or incurred one premium charge from VIP Class during the particular draw period. VIP Class Subscribers earn points within Mega Hunt, by replying to the trivia questions of Freeland or by incurring charges from VIP Class and are eligible for the Freeland and VIP Class Prizes with the total number of points accumulated up to the end of the relevant draw period. To qualify for a particular draw, subscribers must be successfully charged N100 during that prize period. 

7 – How can I find out my total number of points?

To find out your total number of points in Freeland and VIP Class:

  •  send an SMS with the word “POINTS” to the shortcode 38427 at no cost

8 – How can I retrieve my latest trivia question of the day?

To retrieve your latest trivia question of the day in Freeland:

  • send an SMS with the word “LAST” to the shortcode 38427 at no cost

To find out more information for Freeland and VIP Class over SMS:

  • send an SMS with the word “INFO” to the shortcode 38427 at no cost

10 – How can I unsubscribe from Mega Hunt?

If you wish to unsubscribe only from Freeland:

  • send an SMS with the word “STOPFREE” to the shortcode 38427 at no cost

If you wish to unsubscribe only from VIP Class:

  • send an SMS with the word “STOPVIP” to the shortcode 38427 at no cost

Upon sending the respective keyword to the respective short code and upon successful unsubscription, you will receive a message confirming the cancellation.

12 - How are the winners notified / announced?

Winners will be notified telephonically by MTN as soon as possible after the draw on the mobile phone number used to subscribe in the service(s). MTN will attempt to contact the winner at least 3 times a day over a period of 1 week, between the hours of 9am and 8pm. If the winner cannot be contacted during this period, he is disqualified and forfeits the prize and the MTN will attempt to contact the next runner up.

13 - How can I collect my rewards?

When you win, you will receive a call so as to be informed of all necessary details for receiving your reward, including proper identification, reward acceptance. The rewards are personal and can be redeemed only from the winner.

14 - I sent a message but didn‘t receive a reply SMS, why?

If you have not received a reply SMS, verify the following:

  1.     Check if your mobile is full of messages and doesn’t have enough of memory to receive new ones. Please erase some messages to free up some memory.
  2.     Please check the mobile phone is inside network coverage area. Under no or limited signal coverage, the SMS might have failed to reach the destination.
  3.     The message wasn't sent to the correct number. Write a new message and send it to the right short code according to the service you want to subscribe to.
  4.     There is a chance the network in your area is overloaded at the moment. Please show some patience. If you don’t receive a message within 15 minutes, please send a new SMS.
